2018 Data security predictions look grim

The outlook may be bad, but Marshal can do you some good.

--

Experts from every industry are trotting out their predictions for the coming year, and data security pros are no exception. The bad news is — data security will get a lot harder in 2018, but the good news is Marshal can definitely help make it a little easier.

CNET may have summed it all up best with the headline “Get ready for more hacks in 2018.” That… pretty much says it all.

While we already saw this coming, Stephanie Balaouras at Forrester provides some context as to why data breaches will get worse, writing:

We don’t expect much respite in 2018, unfortunately, as consumers, businesses, healthcare providers, and governments will face challenges brought on by four primary forces: 1) rising tensions in international relations; 2) ubiquitous connectivity; 3) digital transformation initiatives; and 4) increasing importance of the data economy.

At the Infosec Institute, they predict that cloud security will become a “top priority for enterprises,” saying:

A growing number of companies will rely on cloud storage attracting the interest of cyber criminals and state-sponsored hackers.

Because of this, cloud infrastructures are a potential target of security breaches.

In response, enterprises should adopt security guidelines and strategies to mitigate the risk of exposure to cyber threats.

And if that wasn’t enough, Mike McKee, the CEO of ObserveIT reminds us that there is a big cybersecurity talent shortage. To respond, organizations will “turn to security automation and orchestration tools to overhaul internal processes and augment lines of communication.”

And that thought brings us to the the good news! Marshal can help you in your 2018 data protection efforts! As more organizations rely on the cloud for storage, we can help them quickly and easily uncover exposed sensitive data like Social Security and credit card numbers they might be inadvertently sharing.

And to McKee’s point, Marshal is automated. Set it up once and Marshal will automatically alert you if any new exposed data is uploaded to your cloud accounts.

Experts agree that data breaches are going to continue to happen in 2018. But thieves can’t steal what you aren’t storing. Let Marshal be a bright light in a dark year. Try Marshal for yourself free today!
